  • iPhone camera warps image

Posted on August 25th, 2007 ben No comments

I have noticed on a few occasions that the iPhone’s camera does some strange stuff when the camera is moving or the subject is moving, and it’s not just blurriness. But this one takes the cake. I was on top of the butte with Elliot yesterday and I wanted a couple shots of us up there. Of course I was just holding out my arm and trying to keep my hand steady in order to take the picture. But Elliot was holding a big maple leaf and was swinging it around, and on one shot he happened to swing it in front of the camera just as the “shutter” was “open”. (I have no idea if there is such a thing on this kind of camera.)

I could not have dreamed up a stranger effect.

Picture 1 shows some of the normal warpage which the iPhone camera often exhibits due to a slight tilt of the camera during image capture. Picture 2 is that maple leaf. Picture 3 is just a pretty nice shot for comparison, and to show that Elliot’s head is not really deformed.

  • Elliot In Ohio II

Posted on August 23rd, 2007 ben No comments

On our second day in Ohio Patricia took us to King’s Island, an amusement park near Cincinnati. (The picture here shows a roller coaster called the Vortex. It amused me.) We had an outstanding day, all in all. Great roller coasters, great weather, fireworks, and one world-class elephant ear…

On the last day we had a nice picnic in Patricia’s back yard. Cheryl’s grandmother and three aunts all came around, (plus Bob and little Meadow!) which made the day very special and fun. Elliot got a wonderful, sweet, loving welcome into the family.

Last week Cheryl, Blair, Elliot, and I flew to Ohio to visit family. This was Elliot’s first time on a plane. Cheryl’s mother Patricia hosted excellently, and filled our days with fun stuff to do. On the first day we drove to The Wilds for a safari, which was excellent, though quite hot. More on the trip in the next post.

  • Comparing my Mac SE to my current Mac

Just for fun I looked up the specifications for the Mac SE/30 which my father bought for me in late 1989. This was Apple’s most well-equipped computer at the time, I believe. My current Mac was pretty much the top in 2005. This current mac is/has:

    • Main processor speed: 500 times faster.
    • Stock Hard Drive: 6,250 times more capacity. (25,000 times if you include our additional hard drive capacity)
    • Standard Ram 500 times more capacity. (3000 times after our upgrade to 3 GB RAM)
    • Bus Speed: 78 times faster (BTW, WTF?)
  • Piling on Elliot Photos? Guilty!
