  • Badmotivator’s new home

Posted on April 16th, 2010 badmotivator No comments

I finally got badmotivator away from Yahoo web hosting and into the hands of a host who could offer IMAP mail. It wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to move the blog, but I got it. I think all of the linked images work, even!

The new host, Bluehost, has been helpful and their online administration tools are adequate. It’s even cheaper than Yahoo.

This doesn’t have anything to do with this website, really, but I enjoyed seeing it:

  • Owen is here!

Here is Owen Reinhart Quady, born at Sacred Heart Medical Center at River Bend on Tuesday at 3:33 PM. Owen weighed 6 lbs. 5 oz. Cheryl’s labor was relatively quick. Both Cheryl and Owen were in perfect health. Family and friends were there with us to help celebrate Owen’s arrival. Click pictures to see larger sizes.

  • Sorry for the lack of posts!

Posted on January 21st, 2008 ben No comments

I was all excited to upgrade my Mac apps last year, and am glad I did, except that the upgrade to iPhoto '08 seems to have broken my WordPress export plugin. This means I have to do some actual thinking when I want to post pictures…

WordPress does have some kind of image handling, and initially that's how I was getting photos uploaded and posted. I suppose that until some genius coder re-engineers the plugin I will have to go back to that method.

  • iPhoto 'O8 (v 7.1) breaks WordPress export plugin

Posted on October 4th, 2007 ben No comments

I used to have a very nice plugin for iPhoto which would take selected pictures, upload them and a thumbnail to this WordPress blog, write a draft post which would have the html written for those pictures. Alas, that plugin no longer appears as an option in my "export" menu item dialog box since I upgraded fro, iPhoto 6 to iPhoto 7. There is something there about a web page, but I think that's iPhoto itself making a html doc with code for photos.

So I am on the lookout for some kind of elegant iPhoto > WordPress solution.

  • My first "comments spam"!

Posted on May 29th, 2007 ben 2 comments

Last night, some bot spammed my website! I have this WordPress blog set to check with me before allowing a user to post their first comment. I didn’t really believe that this blog would attract much attention from spammers, but then I get lots of e-mailed spam to admin-at-badmotivator-daught-net. (It’s like spelling things out when in the company of non-spelling children or dogs, except in this case we’re trying to keep secrets from the information-harvesting robots.)

Anyway, this spammer hit me with seven identical comments to seven different posts, which (strange to me) were not the current front-page posts. The comment itself was:

Google is the best search engine Google…

Here is the whois from the spammer:

  • Four-Photo Test of iPhoto Plugin

Posted on March 19th, 2007 ben No comments

Just to make the process of uploading pictures a bit easier, I hooked up this plugin for iPhoto. It’s not exactly obvious how to use it, or obvious how to find out how to use it either. But I think I have it down now. I’m using the demo, so I only get to upload four pics at a time or something. I’l see if it’s worth the $10 to me to be able to do more pics at once. But four sounds nice.

So here are some nice pictures of Elliot, with appearances by Cheryl and Graham and I. He’s a sweet little guy, and fun to photograph, too. Hope you dig ’em.

  • Uh Oh, here's a calendar plugin!

Posted on December 27th, 2006 ben No comments

WordPress is pretty attractive platform for php coders to add stuff onto, apparently. If you go to the WordPress Plugin Database you will find a ton of extra functions for the WordPress content management system (CMS). I am poking my way through those plugins, just to see what’s possible.

Update: I took down the calendar I was using briefly. It doesn’t play nicely with the format set up by the WordPress themes I’m using.

  • Badmotivator switches from iWeb to WordPress

Posted on December 24th, 2006 ben No comments

Old site I guess that, in the end, iWeb just doesn’t work all that well end-to-end. It sure makes pretty pages, which I’ll miss. And it was fun to move little page elements around. Apple did those bits nicely.

The problems came when I wanted to publish the site. Yahoo apparently doesn’t support WebDAV, whatever the hell that is, which meant no incremental publishing, and that meant whole-site uploading. In the end, I think that’s what did me in. I just never really felt like sitting down and remaking and republishing the whole site… so it never happened.

So I’ll play around with WordPress for a while! Maybe this kind of content management system is right up my alley. Or maybe, like iWeb was, it’s a winter thing, which I’ll abandon at the very first sight of the sun… Stay tuned, and feel free to comment.
